This past fall’s Derby Days was one of the most successful and prominent Derby Days to occur at the Alpha Sigma Chapter in its history. The Alpha Sigma Chapter raised well over 6,000 dollars for Gillette’s Children’s Hospital. Most of this money raised came from a concert held on the last day of Derby Days, which featured artist Sam Adams. This concert not only raised a great deal of money for our philanthropy, but it also placed the Alpha Sigma Chapter on a pedestal high above the other Greek organizations on campus, since an event this large has never been attempted by another Fraternity at the University of Minnesota.
The other Derby Days events also raised money and increased our relations within the Greek community and the community at large. On the Wednesday of Derby Days, the Brothers held our annual date auction. This brought in representatives from all of the U of M sororities, raised a great deal of money and was a wonderful time for everyone. Thursday was an inter-fraternal poker night and Friday the Brothers all brought a date to “Feed My Starving Children,” a philanthropic organization that brings food to underprivileged children around the world.
With the concert to conclude these other events, this Alpha Sigma Derby Days was not only one of the most successful Derby Days ever executed and will serve as a mold for future Derby Days here at the Alpha Sigma Chapter.
